Wen Redmond

Wen Redmond has been a fiber artist since 1976. A former Home Economics teacher, she has worked with batik and weaving which evolved into folk art quilts and a love of the modern art quilt movement.

In the late 90’s, her work centered on abstract expressionism using dyed natural material and surface design, creating gentle tonal contrasts and layers that interact with each other. Her method of direct cutting, without the use of patterns, was innovative at that time. Her work continues to evolve through experimentation.

Since the early 2000, her works include photography, printed, or transferred onto fabric, paper or created and mixed media substrates.

She has created several innovative digital fiber techniques. Holographic Images presents multiple layered pieces of photographs printed on silk organza and borders of painted and surface designed fabrics. These pieces create a 3-D effect that moves as the viewer changes positions.

Textured Photographs involves the use of molding paste to create textured mixed media fiber photographs. The resultant painterly photographs are thin enough to be sewn or collaged into small compositions.

Wen continues to investigate the digital world but also imaginative presentations that add to the pioneering exploration of her media and give her work edge. Her latest work continues experimenting with digital photography, manipulation and printing images on mixed medium substrates. Each work is unique and created individually. She delights in creating dialogue, changing perspectives and perceptions of fiber.

Wen’s award-winning fiber art has been recognized by Quilt National included in Marvin Fletcher’s, Quilt National collection, now part of the permanent collections of Marbaum at San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles Her work has traveled the US, UK, CA, Europe, Japan, and Australia, has been included in many juried exhibits and collections.
